Period Books 1 - The Volkswagen Inside Out

Some 1950s VW related books are well worth buying / collecting. This for example are two booklets named "The Volkswagen Inside Out". Printed in 1958 and 1959 these are collections of articles translated from the German magazine "GUTE FAHRT" the official magazine for VW drivers.

I only have these 2 and know they were also printed in German language under the title "VW-ABC So Siegt der VW von Innen Aus". Are there more in English???

DIY 1952 Beetle

In October we had the NOS Revell kit of a VW Samba. This month we found a 1952 VW postcard that allows you to build your own beetle. Bring out the scissors and glue!

Pump frame restored and all penals back from media-blasting and in color primer.

I found a few petrol pumps at Davy's Garage in Carlow. They were VW dealer in the 1950s. The one in the middle is a model 296 Gilbarco which I will restore.

NOS 1958 VW Transporter "Samba"

Bought a CKD 1958 VW Transporter "Samba". Well not the real thing but a genuine 1950s Revell kit.

BERU & BOSCH

These 2 signs arrived today from Germany after a long wait. The BERU one is early '60s I think and the BOSCH is definitely a '50s sign as it has the scripted BOSCH logo on the lenses.

2 Old Irish Rally Pictures

Spotted these 2 pictures on the website of the Kilkenny Motor Club. Both cars seem to be late 1950s models. Some driving skills there!

1960s VW Dealer Lightup Sign

Got this one in a few weeks back. It's a late 1960s VW lightup sign from the UK. Was exported to the US by a collector and now back in Europe and in my collection. Just means I have to get the electrics back to 230 Volt.

Coca Cola - Drive Refreshed

Saw this lovely painted Coca Cola billboard on my last roadtrip. Painted on wood and faded away. So cool!

1953 Zwitter Carrera Panamericana

Found these pictures on the internet and love this car. Early 1953 "zwitter" model used to recreate a Carrera Panamericana rally car. Very rare Pepco supercharger, Porsche 356 brakes and wheels on this car. Beautiful decals complete the look.

Spotted - Enamel VW Service Sign

Today I drove toward Dunmanway, Co. Cork and after asking a bit around I spotted this original enamel VW Service sign. It use to be in the J.D. Bernard, Royal Hotel Garage in Dunmanway in the '60s when it was a VW service point. J.D. Bernard already was a service point for VW as early as 1956. Unfortunately I could not convice the owner to part with the sign...

Got this one in last week! Original dealer poster measuring a massive 120x80cm. I am thinking about doing a limited run of reproductions in either A0 or A1 on proper heavy paper. Look at that beautyful art work!

I use to have a web site name www.vwmadeinireland.com but found updating it too cumbersome.  This blog focuses on Volkswagens of 1950 - 1959, specifically with Old Speed items such as for example a Judson Supercharger or a dual carburetor kit. I also have special interest in VW in Ireland is same period and will try to get pictured from Irish VW dealers, sub-dealers and service points from the 1950s.
