LEGO 1964 PORSCHE 911

Been a while since I posted... Over the Xmas period I build this LEGO Porsche 911 based on the 1964 model. Scale is roughly 1:13 and not a LEGO kit but designed by some enthusiast (in dark red). Over 1700 pieces and use some chromed LEGO pieces and decals to complete the look.

Hazet Shop Sign with 645s

Found the original Hazet shop display on EBAY and a complete set of original 1950s 12-point flexible head wrenches (645s) on a different website. Got the tools replated and applied Hazet water transfers and after cleaning the sign mounted them. Now got a nice place on the garage wall.

Cleaning Hazet Tools

Here a  step-by-step description on how to clean your old Hazet tools:

1. Bought a pre-1965 Hazet adjustable pliers, 760. It arrived like this:

2. First step is to give it a quick wipe with a baby-wipe followed by a soak in hot soapy water:

3.  Using an old toothbrush for cleaning. Afterwards drying it:

4. There is still some paint on it so using Nitromors paintstripper next:

5. Time for another soak in hot soapy water. After drying:

6. Looking good but not shiny enough. Using metal polish (Autosol) and some fine steel wool

7. Remove excess polish and any other dirt using panel wipe (slow degreaser)

8. Finish it off by applying a Hazet water decal as per the original location

1958-1959 VW Poster

Bought this original VW poster at a German auction house specialized in auto memorabilia. It's from around 1958-1959 and in wonderful condition.

Judson Supercharger Brochure

Picked this one up on www.thesamba.com; original mid 1950s Judson Supercharger brochure for 36hp beetle engines. This one will go into the glovebox of my 1955 convertibe... one day.

1955 VW Dealer Poster

Another poster for on the wall of the new showroom. This one is from around 1955.

Gilbarco Restoration 4

Restoration completed. All new rubbers and glass in and fully assembled. Electricity all wired up and new hose.

1958 VW Technical Poster

All through 1950s up to early 1960s Volkswagen published series of posters for use within VW Dealerships and Service Points. This example was found at a dealer in the US and dates from 1958 showing the dashboard after the oval window beetle and listing all the controls. Soon to be framed and on display in the new garage.

Period Books 1 - The Volkswagen Inside Out

Some 1950s VW related books are well worth buying / collecting. This for example are two booklets named "The Volkswagen Inside Out". Printed in 1958 and 1959 these are collections of articles translated from the German magazine "GUTE FAHRT" the official magazine for VW drivers.

I only have these 2 and know they were also printed in German language under the title "VW-ABC So Siegt der VW von Innen Aus". Are there more in English???

DIY 1952 Beetle

In October we had the NOS Revell kit of a VW Samba. This month we found a 1952 VW postcard that allows you to build your own beetle. Bring out the scissors and glue!

I found a few petrol pumps at Davy's Garage in Carlow. They were VW dealer in the 1950s. The one in the middle is a model 296 Gilbarco which I will restore.

NOS 1958 VW Transporter "Samba"

Bought a CKD 1958 VW Transporter "Samba". Well not the real thing but a genuine 1950s Revell kit.

BERU & BOSCH

These 2 signs arrived today from Germany after a long wait. The BERU one is early '60s I think and the BOSCH is definitely a '50s sign as it has the scripted BOSCH logo on the lenses.
